The course will be structured as follows:

  • Introduction – Overview of regulations and employer and employee duties
  • Identifying the problem – Definitions of hazardous substances, routes of entry, Globally Harmonised System (GHS) labelling, severe and prolonged effects, and symptoms from exposure 
  • Duties and responsibilities – Understand hazardous substance control, locate which substances need a risk assessment and how to effectively review and record findings, conduct health surveillance, work methods and reporting procedures
  • Control – Knowing how to proceed with action from risk assessment findings, control equipment, and management 
  • Personal Protection – The importance of personal protection, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protective equipment (RPE) and how to effectively use and maintain it

 Once you have completed all modules you will need to complete a final assessment whereupon completion, you will be awarded a COSHH Certificate to verify that your business is complying with its legal obligations and requirements

Our course details how to identify the varying types of hazardous substances (such as dust, chemicals, and biological agents), what harm these can cause, and what preventative control measures can be put in place to avoid exposure to such substances to prevent the risk of injury. 

Our course is IOSH approved, CPD certified, and will ensure your business complies with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002.

Under regulation 12 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002, it states that “every employer who undertakes work which is liable to expose an employee to a substance hazardous to health shall provide that employee with suitable and sufficient information, instruction, and training”. 

It is therefore a legal requirement for employers to communicate safe systems of work in relation to COSHH and it is also required by the employee to cooperate with their employer to meet those obligations.
